The 18-year-old Alfred shows tourists the sights with his boat in one of the most beautiful areas of the Philippines. However, although these tourists are impressed by the scenic nature, their main interest lies with the sexual freedom of the attractive boatguides, who earn a lucrative extra income with their erotic games. Young Alfred, a virgin in sexual matters and quite shy, is pressured to do the same, by his friend Eman who tries to convince him of the benefits of the 'trade', by his father whose gambling addiction requires more money, and even by his girlfriend Cecilia.
Slowly Alfred desires to enjoy the same pleasures that his friends seem to appreciate so. Soon he gets an unexpected chance to lose his innocence and to live out his confusing romantic feelings for his friend Eman (Dennis Torres).

The Filippine movie Sagwan is set in Tatalon, a quiet small town. Here boatmen make a living by ferrying tourists along its long winding river. Behind this beautiful setting hides an ugly truth. Boatmen succumb to prostitution to make ends meet. Finding himself at the center of this harsh reality is the main character Alfred, played by newcomer Ryan Dungo.
